Sindh Excise and Taxation department has proposed the amendment to introduce biometric system for verification of seller and buyer to discourage the practice of plying vehicles on open letters.

The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation & Narcotics Control and Parliamentary Affairs Mukesh Kumar Chawla at his office here.

Director General Excise and Taxation Shabbir Ahmed Shaikh said that due to number of complaints that certain vehicles were being plied on open letters, the department had decided to take action against them and for the purpose, a proposal has been forwarded to the government to introduce biometric system of verification of the buyer and seller at the time of vehicle transfer /registration.

Furthermore, he said that the department has completed all formalities regarding launching of smartcard with more security features as compared to the smartcard introduced by Punjab government.

Meanwhile, Chawla directed the officers to take concrete measures to curb the practice of plying on vehicles on open letters and reviewed the arrangements, made for upcoming road checking campaign. Secretary Excise and Taxation & Narcotics Control Abdul Rahim Shaikh and others officers also present on the occasion.
